The resort itself is an oasis of peace and natural tranquility. A part of the Castaway brand, it features 65 spacious accommodations ranging from cosy Island Bures to palatial Family Beach Bures. Matching up to Castaway island Resort’s hallmark of comfort, privacy and luxury, each air-conditioned bure features traditional Fijian thatched roofs, high vaulted ceilings with colourful bark-cloth ‘tapa’ tapestries and spacious ensuite bathrooms. To burn off the calories, Castaway Fiji has an array of activities on land and water to enthuse and exhilarate visitors. Adults and children can spend days swimming and snorkelling in the clear waters of the Pacific; the pristine coral reef abounds with shoals of colourful fishes. There are also great waves to surf in the Mamanucas and kayaking is an excellent option to explore the island. The island’s thickly-forested hills are also a fantastic fount of activities, hiking and nature walks allow travellers to explore the colourfully exotic flora and fauna.
Our recommendation? The Modriki tour, where couples and families can enjoy a private champagne brunch on the very island where Tom Hanks’ ‘Castaway’ film was shot. Kids can enjoy and learn on the go at the Kids’ Club and separate activities specially designed for their entertainment and education. Oh, they also have a lovely traditional kava ceremony, too. What’s kava, you say? Why, it’s South Pacific’s answer to alcohol. No seriously, Fiji has a long and ancient tradition of grinding and drinking the extract of this pepper plant – you can read about it on our blog ‘Kava: Oceania’s Answer to Alco-Bev?‘
Beyond Castaway Island Resort’s fantastic accommodations and activities, it excels at providing epicurean choices to travellers. The main restaurant, Water’s Edge, highlights fresh local produce via buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Nuku Marau Bar and Grill is located by the edge of the family pool and is great for drinks, tapas and light repast throughout the day; while the Sundowner Bar is the place to go for wood-fired pizzas & continental buffets. For truly inspired Asian cuisine, head towards Restaurant 1808 which features the best of Fijian and Chinese cuisines.
