Gateway to everything great in Vanuatu
Resorts in Efate
About Efate
Spread over nearly 900 square kilometres, the island of Efate is the most populous in Vanuatu. It also hosts the capital of the island nation Port Vila and is the hub of all international and domestic flights. Efate’s two picturesque deep-water bays of Port Vila and Havannah also designate it as the point of embarkation for cruise ships, exploration vessels and commercial flotilla. The island is easily navigable via a circular sealed road – outside of Port Vila, the rustic heart of Efate is quickly discovered. Lush jungles, rolling plains surrounding the Mount MacDonald, crystal-clear streams, rivers and waterfalls abound.
Things to do
During WWII, Vanuatu served as a naval rear base for the American Seventh Fleet. There are plenty of historical landmarks and relics from the war that can be visited during day-tours. Besides modern and contemporary history, Efate has a booming nightlife. For a small port town, it has over 40 restaurants and bars serving delectable international cuisines as well as island fare! The pubs and bars stay open late, but the locals are warm, friendly and the streets remain very safe at all hours. Of course, the swimming, snorkelling and diving are off the charts as usual – there are numerous islands around Efate that are worthy of day-trips and diving/fishing charters.
