About Vanautu

About Vanautu

About Vanautu

The Melanesian paradise of Vanuatu is located in the South Pacific. Known for its pristine beauty and sustainable lifestyle, Vanuatu is an island escape in the tropics that should absolutely feature on your bucket list.

Chart your tropical excursions right from the moment you set foot on Port Vila, located on the main island of Efate. Port Vila is the capital and is surrounded by miles of delicate reef and beaches which greet people even before they get off the plane. The northern island of Espiritu Santo, the largest amongst its brethrens,  boasts amazing views of the forest-clad mountains, underground caverns and caves and powdery-white beaches. The island of Tanna to the south is another highlight, home to the active volcano Mt. Yasur – popular with eco-tourists, thrill seekers and divers alike. But the main attraction of Vanuatu is the unfailing good nature and hospitality of ni-vanuatu (the people). Together with a range of accommodations and a host of activities, it makes for a gem of a tropical getaway.

Best Time to Visit Vanuatu

Vanuatu enjoys a sub-tropical climate which is generally sunny but do expect the occasional downpour. While the summers (November-March) are humid with the mercury averaging 28°C, winters (April-October) are dry with temperatures rarely exceeding 24°C and usually the preferred time to visit. Tepid waters and cool trade winds are common throughout the year.  One of the best experiences in Vanuatu is to see the Naghol Land Diving ceremony. From April to June, witness the Naghol village men prove their virility by tying their feet with liana creepers and diving off platforms 60-100 feet high to the ground below. Often considered the precursor to modern bungee-jumping, only a few lucky travellers get to see this ceremony. (Talk to our South Pacific Specialists on how to arrange a visit). Then, there is the Tanna Toka dance in October, which goes on for days and is only permitted when the village chiefs mandate so.  Another interesting event is the Lukaotem Gud Santo Festival in Luganville, Santo – a two-day music extravaganza perfect for families and couples.

Top 5 Experiences in Vanuatu

Top 5 Experiences in Vanuatu

Top 5 Experiences in Vanuatu

First up is the perpetually rumbling, awe-inspiring Mount Yasur. Visit to experience an alternative expression of mother nature, a far cry from nurturing forests and glades. Professional tour guides and safety gears absolutely recommended!! Next up, we recommend checking out the famous dive sites of Million Dollar Point and SS President Coolidge. Willing to test your mettle still – check out the Millennium Cave that needs a hike, swim and a climb to access. All this diving and climbing has you tired? Visit the Nanda Blue hole for some much needed relaxation. Tranquil peacock-blue waters, so clear and cool you’ll need to experience it to believe it. Last but not the least, we suggest checking out the Ekasup village to learn all about the Vanuatu way of life and….cannibalism! The former is current, the latter is history, and we’re ever so grateful. And for those with a taste of the arcane, we recommend checking out the Black Magic Island of Ambrym where indigenous spirituality and Kastom still thrive to this day!
