Once travellers land at Samoa’s Faleolo Airport, the resort is less than an hour’s ride across the lush tropical landscape of Upolu. Although officially a 4.5-star boutique resort, entering Sinalei’s 33 acres of manicured gardens and stylish villas feels nothing less than seven stars. Only 29 villas guarantee personalised attention and almost-private island experience.
The resort has a range of choice in accommodation, from cosy one-bedroom traditional villas perfect for couples to two-bedroom beachfront villas able to accommodate six adults. Each villa comes with king-size beds, rustic styling with locally-sourced timber, air-conditioning as well as ceiling fans, tea / coffee makers and a large sun-deck for the lazy Pacific evenings.
Sinalei offers travellers the ability to do as much or as little as they like. The adventurous can snorkel or scuba dive pretty much anywhere around Upolu’s pristine waters. We recommend a day checking out the ‘blue hole’ at the To Sua Trench – a bit of a hike will lead to a magical trench with the clearest blue waters, perfect for cooling off. The Papapapaitai Falls is also a good venue, combining nature and adventure. For taking things easy, the Sinalei Resort has a magnificent spa where deep-tissue massages and traditional therapeutic treatments leave one pleasantly content.
Dining@Sinalei Reef Resort
After a day of fun in the sun, the meals should be succulent and the drinks potent – and Sinalei shines on this front. The resort practices a ‘from farm to plate’ ideology and supports the local community by only using home-grown produce and fresh-caught seafood. The main restaurant, Laumosooi, is for fine dining, while the Ava I Toga is famed for its overwater setting and fresh seafood platters. If you’re just looking for a drink, Uncle Harry’s is where cocktails, beers, and speciality mocktails are plentiful – ask the bartender for his Coconut Mojito, it’s a resort special!
Over the years, the Sinalei Reef Resort and Spa has been nominated in almost every luxury resort category and winning several.
