Over the years, the Litia Sini Resort has been developed into a concept holiday resort – mixing both mod-cons that travellers need with traditional Samoan ‘islander’ features like stilted accommodations with thatched, high-vaulted roofs, tiled flooring, ceiling fans, louvered windows, and a balcony to enjoy breezy evenings. However, since Litia Sini is a budget option, there is no air-conditioning and the bathroom facilities are all communal, set behind the fales. While the Beachfront Fales are set right on the beach and enjoy both great sights of the beach and the crystal-clear waters, the Garden Fales are set just a little way behind. Therefore, guests staying in the latter accommodations are almost as close to the beach and have clear line of sight of the sea, too!
Although the resort is a family-run affair, they leave nothing to chance when it comes to wining and dining. As they own the largest fishing boat on the southern side of the island, guests are pretty much guaranteed the best catch of the day being served up for meals. The breakfast and dinner is a buffet type spread, with a daily changing menu of fresh fruits, fresh-baked breads and yes, fresh fish! The Litia’s Beach Cool Bar is the place where all travellers end up once evening sets – it’s a great hang-out with plentiful beer, wines, and tropical cocktails.
Besides relaxing on the beach, there’s a ton and half of activities for both adults and families in and around the resort. Ticking off swimming, snorkelling, kayaking and exploring the reef; they’re uniformly excellent across the nation. Then, for first timers, we recommend signing up for a village tour where guests will get a crash-course in Fa’a Samoa, the cultural system that unites the country. The tour also involves an ava ceremony, dances, songs and so on… time flies by, in a nutshell. There’s also an umu meal, which is a traditional buried earthen oven feast with baked veggies and meats, weaving lessons, town visits, deep forest off-roading tours, bush walks and so on.
Oh, Samoa has a bunch of waterfalls – a tour of one is quite awesome. There are also plenty of island-based tour operators who can take travellers island-hopping, scuba-diving and paragliding, have at them. Also, we’ve quite a few blogs on travel in the South Pacific, especially Samoa. For first timers, we’ve a nifty little travel guide to Samoa, and for those who have been to this island nation before, have you seen the underground freshwater caves at Piula?
