Vanuatu has just celebrated its Independence Day on July 30, and the country has reopened its borders for tourism as usual. ‘Yay’ all around! After two years of figurative solitude, the country of Vanuatu could not have picked a better time to get back to happy holidaying.
The British and the French had tussled over Vanuatu for some time, and they had come up with a novel joint ‘condominium’ sharing of the South Pacific country. Vanuatu gained independence from the condominium setting in 1980, and now it celebrates its freedom with over a week’s national holidays, joyful celebration, and merriment. This historical event gets especially important this year, because, after two years of seclusion and isolation, the country has restarted its tourism industry. Travel and happy Vanuatu holidays – we’re back and how!
Now that Vanuatu holiday packages are going to get back in fashion, all the resorts and hotels dotting this island nation are spiffed up and so ready to welcome travellers. The Vanuatu government and the tourism body have unveiled its Triple C certification for hotels, resorts, tour operators and transfer companies. What’s Triple C again? It means ‘Clean, Caring & Checked’. The tourism authorities and the government are ensuring that all tourism and hospitality stakeholders are knowledgeable, up to date on health and safety, plus invested in travellers’ safety.
It’s an exhilarating feeling for travellers who have experienced Vanuatu’s beauty and have been waiting patiently since COVID locked down the globe. The country has a range of hotels and resorts to suit every category of traveller ever imagined and/or existing. Luxury? Yes, please. Adventure? But of course. Pocket-friendly? Very much so. Family-friendly? Double helpings of those, please and thank you.
For example, the Iririki Island Resort & Spa is one of Vanuatu’s premier luxury resorts. Set on its island off Port Vila, Iririki offers families, couples and honeymooners all mod-cons they’re familiar with and more. Besides a choice of chef-managed restaurants and pools, it also offers guests a casino with all the games they can try their luck on. The Holiday Inn Resort, Vanuatu is a refreshingly familiar name for silver travellers – it has comfortable, airy rooms and is close to many an attraction. Another name familiar to international travellers would be the Ramada Resort by Wyndham, Port Vila. Set next to the humongous Erakor Lagoon, the resort offers travellers a range of accommodation choices from Studio Rooms and Suites all the way to Two-Bedroom Apartments.
For returning travellers and those familiar with Vanuatu hotels and accommodations, there’s the Grand Hotel & Casino, one of the oldest standing hotels in the country, and Chantilly’s on the Bay – a beautiful boutique resort by Erakor and a favourite of repeat travellers. Oh, and there’s the Havannah, a great boutique luxury resort which offers families and couples secluded villas and cottages next to a white-sand beach! We haven’t even touched on the other islands – but we will. Watch this space.
