Listen to Beachcomber Island Resort, Fiji: Your Holiday Bucket List Lives Here

The Beachcomber Island Resort, Fiji rarely needs an introduction – welp, atleast for Aussies it doesn’t. Seasoned travellers to the Mamanuca islands in Fiji adore its sandy shores, glassy blue waters and excellent hospitality. And if it’s your first time here, get ready to embark on a holiday like no other in the South Pacific. Your benchmark for future Fiji and island resort holidays will be set forever high.

This island resort stays sun-soaked for most parts of the year and travellers who enjoy the shirt-scorcher on their face and sand between their toes regularly come back for seconds. Below are some of our favourite activities, ranked in no order of preference. We feel these are some aspects which hold Beachcomber Island Resort in a league of its own.

7. Snorkelling the reefs at Beachcomber Fiji

Checked into your beachside bure? Great! How about a sip of coconut water, a change of clothes and heading out into the warm Pacific waters with your snorkelling gear? The water here is ridiculously clean (you’ll have to see it to believe it!) and visibility is not an issue on summer days. Don your gear and fin over turtles and fishes feeding around the colourful corals.

These coral-rich waters are a sight to behold and it is so common for visitors to get pruned exploring the corals and feeding the fishes day in and out. This is what Beachcomber’s bounty is – and a gentle reminder why we need to be sustainable and mindful towards our planet.

6.  Take a glass-bottomed boat tour: Peep some lovelies!

Sail the Pacific’s calm waters in a glass-bottomed boat as you catch sights of colourful parrotfish, butterfly fishes and graceful angelfishes. You can also see damsel and clown fishes dart in and out of the colourful corals that they call home. And if you are lucky, you can spot the elusive moray eels and manta rays!

This is a must-do activity, especially if you are vacationing at the Beachcomber with the little ones. This is not just another activity, but a joyous holiday gift that you’ll be gifting your ankle-biters and who knows, you might just introduce them to a life-long hobby or a future career in marine conservation.

5. Scuba-diving at Beachcomber Fiji: Plumb the deeps!

OK, you have floated past the vibrant marine life in the glass-bottomed boats and have seen them up close in the shallows. But it’s entirely different when we explore the deeps and see marine life in their habitats; their home. Don some scuba gear and set out to see the water shift from turquoise to deep inky blues, swimming past gigantic coral cathedrals, coral walls in beautiful psychedelic colours, predatory fishes like skipjacks, curious mahi-mahis, ambush hunters like groupers and barracudas as well as the slender wahoos.

Fiji is popular as the soft coral capital of the world and the popular reef site Supermarket is roughly 30 kilometres. Do check it out if time permits, you’ll not want to give this a miss.

When taking a break from the water, learn how to plait yourself a basket in fun life skills!

4. Kayak to the nearby islands

Here’s an idea for a day adventure. Post breakfast, grab a kayak from the resort’s activity hut and set sail to the nearby islands. Yes, really. Treasure Island is a popular destination and can be reached under 30 minutes. Do note: there’s a 10-dollar landing fee, which goes to the village. Here, you can kick back with a cold brew under the shade of palm trees, have a quiet moment with your partner and then kayak back to the scenic beauty that is Beachcomber Island resort.

3. Enjoy a quiet beach picnic

Beachcomber has quite the party vibe to it. That doesn’t mean there are no quiet nooks to be found on the island. In fact, if yours is an ocean-facing bure, chances are you have a tiny strip of Beachcomber’s sandy beach all to yourself! So why not grab a couple of beach towels, spread them under the shade of the swaying palm trees and enjoy an impromptu beach picnic just between you and your partner.

And if you are with your family here, enjoy days of building sandcastles with the nippers, dig a hole to the other side, or sunbath to catch that perfect tan. Just make sure you have plenty of fluids and sunscreen at hand – trust us, you’re going to need it.

2. Take a sunset walk to connect (or disconnect!)

When the sun sets over the Pacific, it lights up the horizon in magnificent technicolour. It’s so vivid, something best experienced in person as you walk hand in hand with your muse and circumnavigate the island – all of which takes less than 30-odd minutes.

Or… just take a walk by your own. It’s nice to hear the quiet. When we’re so surrounded by people, and phones which deliver the world to us relentlessly, it’s nice to… not think and walk on autopilot. Beachcomber’s good for that, too.

There’s always something fun going on at the beach!

1. Wind down the day with evening fun and cheer at the bar

The Beachcomber’s island-casual restaurant offers scrumptious delicacies served with a huge helping of stunning views of the waters. Dinner is served from 1900 onwards (7 pm) and is usually a buffet. For more on dining, check out the resort page. Pre-dinner, head to the beach bar for some tropical cocktails and post-dinner wind down with lighthearted activities like Bula dance and karaoke nights. It’s fun, it’s slow and perfect for soothing the nerves after a day of island adventures. Retire to your bure and fall asleep to the lullaby that’s the sound of the ocean.

The Beachcomber Island Resort’s an equal mix of laidback island holidays and tropical adventures. What’s best? We don’t know, it’s your holiday, and you set the pace.
