Using locally sourced materials like pandanus matting, coral, hardwood and stone, the bungalows incorporate traditional design to give the authentic South Pacific aura. Each of them feature a four-poster king-size bed with mosquito netting, a coral floor ensuite bathroom with shower and twin vanity basins, a double day-bed and a veranda which opens out to the black sand beach and the ocean.
The resort offers South Pacific cuisine made with the freshest seafood and organically-grown produce at its restaurant, besides taking special care of the dietary needs and restrictions of its guests.
Not that travellers will ever get bored of swimming off the black sand beach, relaxing on sun-loungers with a cocktail on rinse-repeat, but… there’s still so much to see, do, eat and experiences outside this gem of a resort. Obviously, let’s address the biggest reason to come to Tanna and this resort? To experience the majesty of a live, rumbling volcano in all its glory, so we’ll get a visit to Mount Yasur a definite tick yes! it’s an incredible experience and pro tip, it gets better in the evening as the lava flows come into strong contrast against the fading light. Then, sign up for a visit to the local village – it’s a great way to get to know a new culture, especially one as old as Melanesia. For cultural enthusiasts who want to go off the reservation, get a first-hand experience of the John Frum, Vanuatu’s very own ‘cargo cult’. Believing that following a mythical American WWII airman would provide the islanders with deliverance in the form of houses, food, clothes and necessities, this proto-religion gained a huge following in the tens of thousands in the early 1900s. Then, there’s the quiet island life – besides the volcano, the ash fields, and the black sand beaches, Tanna is a picture-perfect sample of a quiet, beautiful tropical island. Emphasis on picture-perfect. For people looking for more excitement, Port Vila is the way. For a list of things to do in and around Tanna, check out our FAQs section.
On the mainland side, Vanuatu does not disappoint with a plethora of activities both on land and in water! From scuba-diving charters to wreck-diving, shark-feeding sessions, guided snorkelling, jetski safaris, windsurfing, kitesurfing and more – this South Pacific island destination is right up there in terms of watersports. On land too, Vanuatu is no slouch. It has some of the best jungle tours ever, where travellers ride horses, wading across blue water streams and rivers, lush forests, waterfalls and hills.
