After landing at the Tahiti’s international airport, travellers have to take another short domestic hop to Bora Bora – either by scheduled twin-engine plane transfers or by helicopter. From there, the resort’s complimentary speedboat whisks travellers to St Regis in a 15-20 minute journey. If flying in, the resort has its own helipad. Passing Mount Otemanu and the lagoon’s two distinct hues of the lightest azure and inky blues, it’s a surreal feeling to realise ancient Polynesians were right to call this place ‘Pora Pora Mai Te Pora’ – made by the gods.
The international luxury hotel chain has many signature properties, but this one ranks as possibly the best resort experience in the Society Islands, and even the South Pacific. Travellers can choose from secluded one- and two-bedroom beachfront villas and the island’s iconic overwater villas. The accommodations come with a separate bedroom with a king-size bed, an spacious ensuite bathroom with a bathtub, separate shower, his-and-her’s washbasins, large, well-lit vanity mirrors, and a full set of complimentary toiletries. The living room comes with comfortable, island-casual sitting furniture, a separate workspace area, WiFi internet access, a dining setting and a patio. Some of the units have their own plunge pools, while the overwater villas have a glassed-out area inside from where guests can watch fishes flit by!
The villas range in size, but is space and privacy are factors, then there’s really but one address on the island – the St Regis Bora Bora’s Royal Estate. Spread over 13,000 sq feet, this three-bedroom mansion is cut off from other villas, and has its own private beach. Check out the room descriptions for more details on this decadent villa and other options.
Of course, the dining would be par excellence at this resort – but it’s still worth mentioning that one can have authentic flavours from around the world, made with farm-fresh and locally-sourced produce and seafood. The resort has four signature restaurants for patrons to check out, starting with Bamboo, to explore Asia’s bold, yet delicate flavours. Then, the Lagoon Restaurant is the place to head to for sampling fresh catches and local produce. Suspended overwater, patrons can enjoy chef-made delicacies with stunning views of the Mounnt Otemanu in the distance. Then, the Te Pahu is resort’s go-to for scrumptious breakfast, and signature island dishes and preparations. On Wednesdays, restaurant guests can enjoy a Polynesian show along with their aperitifs and dinner.
While the St. Regis Bora Bora Resort offers a its guests a cocoon of luxury and tranquillity, venturing beyond its grounds unveils a wealth of experiences that define this iconic island. Holidaymakers can sign up for myriad aquatic adventures, starting from swimming and snorkelling in the resort’s lagoonarium (which is seriously excellent!), filled with a vibrant array of tropical fishes. They can exploring the lagoon’s vibrant coral reefs surrounding the island on guided snorkelling and scuba-diving excursions.
On land, holidaymakers can hike through the island’s rainforests, tramping to hidden waterfalls and panoramic vistas. Cultural enthusiasts can delve into Polynesian traditions with a visit to a local village, where they can witness traditional dances, learn about ancient customs, and dig into authentic Tahitian cuisine. Travellers can also ask the reception to set up a picnic at nearby Motu Tapu – it’s a private islet with stretches of white sand beach, surrounded by crystal-clear waters. You can even ask the locals to fill you in on the island’s ancient stories steeped in legend.
Need something a little bit more adrenaline-pumping? Well, let’s try jet-skiing across the sparkling turquoise waters – it’s practically guaranteed to bring a smile to the adventurous. Then, deep-sea fishing expeditions offer the chance to reel in prized catches like marlin and tuna – what a day to while away, with a chilled beer in hand and island stories from the boat’s crew! Or, if you’re here for a romantic getaway, then it’s even easier. A romantic sunset cruise, complete with glasses of champagne chilled to perfection, canapes and breathtaking views of Mount Otemanu, sets the stage for an unforgettable evening. When you’re in Bora Bora for romance, there’s very little to do… except let in the loving feeling!
