About Nukutepipi
Nukutepipi, or Nuku-te-pipi as it’s properly said in Polynesian, is one of the smallest coral atolls in Tahiti and Her Islands. A pleasing triangle of white sand beach and palm trees in the midst of the Pacific Ocean blues, this island is the very definition of remote. For reference, Tahiti and Her Islands are moderately distanced from other South Pacific cousins. But Nukutepipi is such a loner that it’s around 6,000 kilometres from any continental landmass. That’s record-breaking territory, indeed. In fact, it’s around 1,000 kilometres away from Bora Bora! But if you have paparazzi chasing after you, it’s very good news. At least your security team can pick their boat off a few hundred kilometres away, yes?
The atoll, officially a part of the Duke of Gloucester Islands, was even inhabited once upon a time. The earliest Western records of the atoll’s sighting was way back in 1606 by a Spanish exploratory mission. Measuring just 2.7 kilometres at its longest, Nukutepipi has two distinct landmasses and its wide reef encloses a small lagoon. The bungalows are set on the larger of the two islets in the atoll. To accommodate the needs of its jet-set guests, the island also has a tiny airstrip.
