Tanoa International Dateline Hotel-N E

Unfortunately I got a room above the smelly, noisy kitchen vent that runs non stop 6am-9pm. The room wasn’t ready on arrival check in time, but this is Tongan time and they let me wait by the pool until it was. It’s a typical hotel so the food and drink is a bit overpriced ($10T for a coconut, same for a beer and same for fries). The WiFi was included in the cost and mostly worked albeit slow. The breakfast was pretty good – you can get eggs your way (scrambled, poached etc) and the other things changed daily (sometimes a vege stir-fry then the next day a chickpea curry), plus all the usual cereals, toasts, juice, yuck coffee. Never too busy by the pool so can get a chair and umbrella. Unfortunately reception wasn’t able to help me book a car, but they did get me an airport shuttle on departure ($40T/pp). They refresh your towel and drinking water daily. It’s not as nice as the photos but I guess that’s most places. Overall, it’s nice for Tonga but I’m not sure it’s worth the cost.
