After travellers get off at the Nadi international airport, they’ll have to get to the Port Denarau marina. From there, the regularly scheduled island catamaran service winds its way through the island, transporting the travellers to the Waya Island in two hours. That’s the regular option, but the resort helpfully spices up the offerings with a private speedboat ride to Waya (which would be much faster), or a zippy chopper ride to the island’s helipad, which is a great way to start holiday, in our opinion.
Guests can choose from a range of accommodation options, from Deluxe Garden Bures all the way to Deluxe Grand Villas. All villas and bures are independent units, with high-vaulted roofs and covered with vines. The bedrooms come with a kingsize bed, a large ensuite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers, dual basins and large, well-lit vanity mirrors. The open-plan living space and comfortable, island-style sitting furniture gel well with the cream and natural wood colour palette. Check out the room descriptions for more pictures, inclusions and features.
Since Waya Island is a remote resort in the Yasawas, it’s advisable to take a meal plan with your holiday. That being said, the resort’s kitchen does cook up a storm, and has a deep a la carte menu. Ask our specialists to give you a breakdown of what their daily-changing menu is like, and they can help with dietary restrictions and preferences.
Let’s face it – epic watersports is probably the biggest reason anyone visits the Yasawa islands, and by jove, does the resort excel here. Guests can spend days and weeks swimming, kayaking stand-up paddle boarding off the island’s powdery-white sand beach. The absolutely crystal-clear waters and the healthy coral reefs help, too. The Waya Island Resort’s activities staff also have regular guided coral reef snorkelling trips and we’d highly recommend them. If you’re more towards soloing, feel free to take snorkelling masks, fins and snorkels from the activities hut. Fancy fishing? Just sign up for a half-day or a full-day and the resort’s captain will take you to some of the world’s best fishing hotspots. He’ll also helpfully take pictures of the massive wahoo, mahi mahi and spearfish you’ll be bagging.
On land, guests can sign up for guided tours of the jungles, and the Yalobi village – the island’s local village. On Sundays, wear your island best and enjoy the local choir at the church! Need more ideas? Check out our Fiji travel blogs for more ideas!
