Things to Do
Check out the Navutu Rock in the Vitawa village, one of the oldest settlements in the Fijian archipelago. As Viti Levu’s northernmost tip, it is the King’s Road which winds its way into this quaint district. Feast your eyes on the nearby sugarcane plantations and (if those porcelain caps hold up) bite into their natural sugary sweetness.
Visitors can also hike to the tomb of Ratu Udre Udre, a Fijian chief who is said to have defeated and feasted on more than 800 victims (it was a hip thing, then!). Or Nananu-i-Ra, where Fijian believe their ancestors’ spirits point of departure. It’s a colourful town with more than a millennium of history, mythology and culture to be uncovered.
