Every island in Fiji is a bespoke experience – but as things go, there are bound to be some winners. The Mamanuca Islands and ones like Savusavu are unbeatable for their sheer amount of adrenaline-pumping activities like mountain climbing, windsurfing and deep-sea diving. Equally thrilling are Beqa and Pacific Harbour with their off-road safaris, jet-ski safaris, parasailing, shark dives and ziplining. There’s also Fiji yacht and catamaran charters for travellers looking to sample the islands at an unhurried pace. Diving enthusiasts need no impetus on reasons to visit Fiji. That said, the Yasawa chain of islands are excellent for their pristine reefs, undisturbed waters, plethora of diving spots as well as impromptu snorkelling off the shimmering sands. Fiji is home to protected marine reserves like Namena Marine Reserve, Navini Island Resort Marine Sanctuary, Somosomo Straits, and more where guests can get up close with giant manta rays, giant clams, spinner dolphins and over 1,200 species of exotic fish!

For a taste of nightlife, head over to Nadi and Denarau. These urban hotspots woo travellers with high streets, gourmet restaurants and clubbing. Yacht charters from Denarau Marina will have adventurous couples and families cruising the azure Fijian waters in luxury catamarans, classic yachts and sleek sailing ships.

Fiji boasts of a year-round tropical climate, with the weather oscillating between warm and… warmer. Downpours are common to tropical climates like Fiji, but they are mostly localised and often a brief, cooling spell. Fijian summers are mostly wet and humid, lasting from November to April – particularly February and March. That said, cool ocean breezes are all too common and make for very pleasant evenings. June to September is Fiji’s version of a tropical ‘winter’, cool and breezy – and therefore the high season. The waters stay warm, perfect for a relaxing swim! There’s no chill or snow, and a light jumper suffices for the evenings. Divers will particularly enjoy the winter months as waters around Fiji stay clear (no run-off from rains) and the lower temperatures make excursions and explorations all the more fun.

Visiting during festivals is a great idea too, particularly to sample Fijian culture and hospitality. Suva is famed for its exuberant New Year celebrations with an annual street party – always a good reason to celebrate the new year in Fiji. Nadi’s Bula festival and Suva’s Hibiscus festival both occur in August and showcase Fiji’s many hues. Holi, the Indian festival of colour, is celebrated here with plenty of aplomb and fervour too. For more trivia and information, do check out our Fiji travel blogs – trust us, every nugget helps.

Suva’s Hibiscus Festival is all about cultural performances, competitive activities, delightful food-stalls, souvenirs and an air of infectious happiness all around. The festival is one non-stop party for nine days and we absolutely encourage guests to check this out. For couples, a romantic cruise in the Mamanucas is quite the experience! Make it memorable, follow it up with a five-course dinner under the stars on a luxury catamaran. A picnic for two on a secluded beach is pretty awesome too! Disconnect from the grind, connect with your partner and walk away with moments that make for fond memories. A perfect representation of the vibrant colours, culture and the warm nature of Fijians – the Bula Festival is full of song and dance performances, beauty pageants, cultural shows and floats. Highly recommended! We also recommend sampling the dive liveaboard charter, curated by our Specialists for you. Rove between islands and explore the underwater wonderland that is Fiji. Adrenaline junkies can look forward to an exhilarating experience in Fiji, soaring over hills, tropical forests, gorges and rivers on an epic zip-line adventure. Last but not the least is Fiji’s renowned Kava – a sensory experience like no other. This traditional brew is much-sought by locals for its soporific effects. While alcohol content is little to none, kava is much more than just a regular calming drink; it’s a deep-rooted symbol of Fijian culture and hospitality, an intangible cultural heritage. We heartily encourage adventurous travellers to sample this tradition, immersing themselves in intimate kava ceremonies, held frequently at their resorts or during one of the village tours.

Kind of. The first-ever settlers were Austronesian around 5,000 years ago, then the Melanesian followed after 1,000 years. Now, Fiji is a multicultural potpourri of cultures and ethnicities ranging from native Kaiviti, Melanesian, Chinese, Indian, European and yes, Polynesian too.

That’s a good story. The original etymology of the word comes from it’s main island – Viti Levu. When Fijian sailors and warriors met their Tongan counterparts, the latter mispronounced Viti as ‘Fizi’ to Captain James Cook, who noted it as such and there we have it – Fiji!
