About New Zealand
New Zealand is one of the few places on the planet where First World amenities meet Old World charm and pristine natural beauty. The northern and southern islands, along with 600 neighbouring small islands and islets make up this island nation. The majority of the attractions and experiences (along with the population!) are found on the two main islands, while the smaller ones sate travellers’ wanderlust and appetite for adventure. New Zealand is remarkably beautiful in its own right, wooing international travellers with foggy mountains, glaciers, verdant valleys to lively cityscapes, superb cuisine, wine tours, Māori and unmatched adventure! Often clubbed with South Pacific getaways such as Fiji, New Caledonia and Solomon Islands, we believe New Zealand stands in a category of its own.
Culture & History in New Zealand
For its size, Aotearoa – which is New Zealand’s culturally-correct name – has a very rich, colourful tapestry of history. Did you know that, because of its remoteness, this country was one of the last places to be ‘humanised’? Earliest human settlements are dated around 1200s, which translates to around 80 million years where the biological purity of the islands was undisturbed. This is why New Zealand, along with New Caledonia, has one of the highest numbers of endemic flora and fauna! Then, the box of surprises doesn’t stop there. The Polynesian sailed over and became what we know (and love!) as the Maori. Although the illustrious Abel Tasman claims rights as the first New World sighting of the islands in 1642, significant European contact only happened a century later with Captain James Cook.Today, the majority of Kiwis are of European descent and the admirable cultural assimilation of European and Maori ideals are a standard of diversity and unity. New Zealand takes pride in being one of the safest, freest and beautiful-est (!!) countries in the world
Why visit New Zealand?
New Zealand (or Aotearoa, too!) will appeal any and all travellers in search of untamed mountain ranges, forests, beaches, culture and history. Here, rent an RV and surround oneself by nature at picturesque eco-havens like Abel Tasman and Fiordland National Park, then swing into action-packed destinations like Queenstown, and swan into urban hotspots of Christchurch and Wellington. Need a cupful of culture? Spend a day at Rotorua, soaking in the Māori culture and heritage, while enjoying an actual soak in the geothermal mud pools.
Things to Do in New Zealand
Scenic and inviting the year around, guests visiting New Zealand have plenty to experience. There’s snowcapped peaks to summit, picturesque trails to hike, serene forests and natural parks to just pause and marvel at, warm mud pools to soak in, and quiet beaches where visitors leave only footprints in the sand. Then, there’s physical activities to take part in. Skydive, bungee jump, kayak, surf, kitesurf, climb mountains and cliffs, the list is endless. Need to recharge? Take your tastebuds on a gastronomic journey with authentic Māori fare like Hangi and Titi or bite into comfort foods like wood-fired pizzas and craft smash burgers. Go around the town to visit places of importance like Auckland War Memorial and Canterbury Museum. Do note, a trip to New Zealand remains incomplete without spending a day or two taking in the famed Māori culture. Visit important sites like Hokianga Harbour, Waitangi Treaty Grounds and Cape Reinga to understand and appreciate the history and a quick detour to one of the many villages to get a feel of ‘whakawhanaungatanga’ or the Māori way of life.
Best time to Visit New Zealand
New Zealand is a round-the-year destination. There’s something to do and experience at all times of the year, just that some are livelier while the others, relatively mellow. The summer months of November to March are great for outdoor activities like hikes and swims, given the average temperature hovers between 16-24°C with occasional cooling spells. January is the ‘touristy’ month, which can see accommodations being pricier at a short notice – may we suggest advance bookings? Enquire here for holiday deals and packages and our South Pacific Specialists will reach out to you with details. Moving on, February and March are relatively less populated with April heralding the oncoming of autumn. June to August are winter months with average temperature hovering between 6-12°C. The Southern Island gets especially cold and receives ample snowfall, making it a mecca for skiers and snowboarders.
Summers are also popular for their many cultural experiences. Guests get to enjoy Waitangi Day in February and Pasifika festival in March while Matariki adds much needed colours to the cold June/July. Each of these events sees New Zealand come together to celebrate its vibrant culture with plenty of singing, dancing and good food. Fair warning, all of them are addictive to boot!

Top 5 Experiences in New Zealand
With its plethora of offerings, any top 5 list for New Zealand remains debatable. But, our in-house experts highlight experiences you’ll be coming back again for.
Set out to hike on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. This scenic 19 km trail takes guests through stunning volcanic landscapes, past bewitching lakes and old lava flows. Visitors are in for a magical experience at the Waitomo Glowworm Caves. Thousands of glowworms illuminate these caverns while visitors gently glide through the cave on boats. An unmissable experience awaits holidayers in the waters of Lake Wakatipu. Hop aboard the historic TSS Earnslaw, a century-old coal-powered steam ship and enjoy an idyllic ride across the serene waters, an experience that takes you back in time. Guests wanting a heady adrenaline rush should check out the blackwater rafting in Waitomo that has visitors rush through underground rivers in inflated tubes, while limestone formations and glow worms fly by. To explore and witness Māori culture and tradition, we recommend a trip to Whakarewarewa – The Living Māori Village, located in Rotorua. Visitors can look to enjoy cultural performances, witness authentic cooking styles and guided tours that showcase the region’s culture.
