Things to Do in Tikehau
Divers and snorkellers will come across schools of clownfish, parrotfish, snappers, barracudas and lionfish, as Tikehau’s marine population far outstrips people. Because of the lagoon’s shallows and sandbars, it is even possible to swim and snorkel one’s way to different islets and coral atolls. The main village of Tuherahera has a trail going around the island, perfect for walks and bicycle rides amongst groves of wildflowers and gardens. A visit to the fish farms allows travellers a glimpse into how fishing sustains the local populace. A short boat ride leaves enterprising holiday-makers at Bird Island, which serves as a natural aviary for several species of birds.
